21 more killed in rain, flash floods as monsoon toll hits 242

ISLAMABAD: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) reported on Wednesday that 21 people lost their lives and six others were injured in rain and flood-related incidents over the past 24 hours.

According to the latest update, the ongoing spell of heavy monsoon rains that began on June 26 has so far claimed 242 lives across the country.

“Since June 26 up to July 22, 242 people have lost their lives, including children and women,” the NDMA said. Additionally, 598 people have been injured during this period.

The report further revealed that over 804 homes have been damaged due to the rains.

Punjab has been hit the hardest, with 135 deaths and 470 injuries. The province has also seen partial damage to 168 homes and complete destruction of 24 houses.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the disaster has claimed 40 lives and left 69 injured. A total of 142 houses were partially damaged, while 78 were completely destroyed.

Sindh recorded 22 deaths and 40 injuries, with 54 houses partially damaged and 33 completely ruined, as per the agency’s figures.

In Balochistan, 16 people were killed and four injured in rain-related incidents. The NDMA said that eight houses were destroyed and 56 others were damaged across the province.
