KARACHI: A western weather system is currently influencing most parts of the country, the Pakistan Meteorological Department said on Sunday.

Because of this system, Karachi is likely to receive rain along with thunder, the Met Office said. Winds may also pick up during the rainfall.

Similar weather is expected in several districts of rural Sindh, including Larkana, Qambar Shahdadkot, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Sukkur, Naushahro Feroze and Dadu.

The Met Office also warned that lightning may occur in some areas during the rain.

Earlier, on the first day of Eidul Fitr, rain with thunder and lightning hit different parts of Karachi early in the morning. The showers came in intervals and disrupted the festive atmosphere, making it difficult for people to move around and forcing many to change their plans.

Rain was recorded in areas such as Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Liaquatabad, Federal B Area and PIB Colony, where heavy showers continued with thunderstorms. Gulshan-e-Hadeed also received rain, while strong winds were reported in different parts of the city.

Eid prayers at Polo Ground were cancelled due to the rain. Muddy conditions also created problems for people heading to Eidgahs, and several open-air gatherings were either delayed or affected by the ongoing showers.

Water accumulated in key areas including University Road, Sharea Faisal, Hassan Square, Nipa Chowrangi, Old Sabzi Mandi, Liaquatabad No 10 and Gurumandir, which caused traffic disruptions and made commuting difficult.
