Pakistan’s goods transport sector has announced a 10% reduction in freight charges following a significant decrease in the price of high-speed diesel (HSD).

President of the All Pakistan Goods Transporters Association Nabeel Mahmood Tariq welcomed the government’s decision to lower diesel prices, saying it would help reduce transportation expenses and ease the financial burden on the transport sector.

The government has cut the price of HSD by Rs32.63 per litre, bringing it down from Rs395.69 to Rs363.06 per litre. Meanwhile, petrol has become Rs2.97 more expensive, with its price increasing to Rs337.51 per litre. The new prices came into effect on August 20, 2026.

Tariq said the reduction in diesel prices should bring down the cost of transporting goods across the country. He also called on the government to ensure that the lower freight rates remain effective for at least one week so businesses and consumers can benefit from the fuel price reduction.

The announcement follows the recent suspension of a nationwide goods transporters’ strike for 40 days after the government gave assurances on several demands. These included petroleum prices, toll taxes, parking facilities and axle-load limits.

The reduction in freight charges could offer relief to businesses that rely on road transport and help bring down logistics costs across supply chains if fuel prices remain lower.
