The Punjab government has made it compulsory for teachers in all public schools across the province to follow a professional dress code starting February 23, 2026.
Under the new policy, both male and female teachers must wear a black gown during school hours. The step has been introduced to create a more professional, consistent and respectful atmosphere in educational institutions.
As stated in the notification issued by the School Education Department, any teacher who does not wear a black gown will not be permitted to take classes or carry out official responsibilities. District Chief Executive Officers and school heads have been directed to monitor and ensure daily compliance with the new dress code.
Officials say the decision is meant to strengthen discipline, bring uniformity and reinforce the professional identity of teachers.
According to the education department, the measure reflects ongoing efforts to uphold high professional standards and improve the overall learning environment in government schools.
