Residents of Karachi’s District West and Keamari will experience a brief interruption in water supply on Tuesday as the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation carries out work at the Hub Canal reservoir.
A spokesperson said the Hub Pumping Station will remain closed from 8am to 10pm while a new control gate is installed. During this period, hydrants at Crush Plant I and II will also stay shut for maintenance.
Because of the suspension, the city is likely to face a temporary shortfall of about 50 million gallons of water for the day. Karachi usually receives nearly 650 million gallons daily, though around 600 million gallons will still be supplied during the shutdown.
Officials explained that the old control gate had been creating repeated problems, making replacement unavoidable. The new gate is expected to enhance the stability and efficiency of the water system.
Residents have been urged to use water sparingly during the maintenance window. The corporation said the short-term inconvenience is part of broader efforts to upgrade Karachi’s water infrastructure and deliver a more reliable supply in the long run.
