The Pakistan Meteorological Department’s Early Warning Centre has predicted rain and thunderstorms in Karachi and several parts of Sindh from January 22, as a western weather system moves toward the province.

Officials said the system is expected to enter Sindh on January 22 and may bring light to moderate rainfall, along with thunder and lightning, to Karachi.

Other districts likely to receive rain include Jamshoro, Dadu, Thatta, Sujawal, Hyderabad, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Sanghar, Mirpurkhas, Umerkot, Naushahro Feroze and Shaheed Benazirabad.

The weather office urged residents to remain careful during thunderstorms, especially in low lying and vulnerable areas, and said further updates will be shared as the system progresses.

Earlier, on December 30, 2025, Karachi experienced its first winter drizzle in several localities. The light rain brought relief from prolonged dry weather and made the atmosphere more pleasant. Many residents welcomed the change, saying it improved overall conditions after a long dry spell.

Meanwhile, cold and dry weather is expected to prevail across most parts of the country over the next 12 hours, with very cold conditions in hilly regions.

Cloudy skies with light rain and light snowfall are forecast at isolated places in upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit Baltistan.

Moderate to dense fog is also likely to form over the plains of Punjab and upper Sindh during the night and early morning hours.

Temperatures recorded this morning in major cities were Islamabad and Muzaffarabad 6°C, Lahore 9°C, Karachi 15°C, Peshawar 8°C, Quetta 1°C, Murree 1°C and Gilgit 3°C.
