The Punjab government has introduced a weekend double-decker bus service connecting Lahore and Sheikhupura to boost tourism and highlight the district’s historical landmarks, officials said.
Operated under the Punjab Tourism and Archaeology Department, the service will run every Saturday and Sunday.
The fare has been fixed at Rs1,200 per person for a round trip, offering travellers from Lahore a convenient way to visit Sheikhupura’s cultural and heritage sites.
During the inaugural trip, passengers visited the shrine of renowned Punjabi poet Waris Shah and the historic Hiran Minar.
Tourists enjoyed boating and cycling activities at Hiran Minar, while organisers arranged a traditional Heer recitation to entertain guests.
Residents and business owners praised the initiative, describing it as an important step toward reviving Sheikhupura’s cultural identity and attracting more visitors from Lahore and nearby areas. Officials said the service has already sparked interest among families and weekend travellers.
Deputy Commissioner Shahid Imran Marth said the district administration plans to transform Sheikhupura into a key tourism destination.
Additional Secretary Tourism Sadaf Zafar added that the project aims to boost the local economy and preserve the district’s historical heritage through sustainable tourism efforts.
