The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced the closure of all schools in the province’s cold mountainous regions for a week following cloudbursts, heavy rains, and flash floods.

According to the notification, schools will remain closed from August 19 to August 25, 2025.

KP Education Minister Faisal Khan Tarakai confirmed the decision while sharing the official notice on X, stating, “Educational institutions in the cold mountainous areas will remain closed from August 19 to 25, but all educational activities will continue at home or online.”

Authorities explained that normally, schools in these high-altitude regions observe summer vacations from July 1 to 31 only.

Meanwhile, schools across Swat, including those in Malakand Division, will also stay closed during this period due to the ongoing heavy rains.

The province has been severely hit by flash floods caused by torrential rainfall. A district official reported that 13 bodies were recovered after a cloudburst struck Dalori village in Swabi on Monday.

Deputy Commissioner Swabi said the rescue operation is still underway to pull out people trapped under debris. “Seven excavators, six ambulances, two rescue vehicles and Rescue 1122 members participating in the rescue and search operation,” he noted.

He confirmed that the death toll has risen to 17, including women and children, with four fatalities in Sarkoi and 13 in Dalori village.
