KARACHI: After heavy rainfall in the city, Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has declared a rain emergency in Karachi.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department had already forecast the showers, which began with light rain last night and turned into heavy downpours by Tuesday morning.
On the mayor’s instructions, all staff leave has been cancelled, with officials directed to remain in the field and ensure drainage work continues smoothly.
Wahab also cautioned that strict action would be taken against any negligence or delays, adding that he and his team were present on the roads to personally monitor the situation and make arrangements for citizens.
Earlier in the day, several parts of Karachi, including Tariq Road, Azizabad, Shahrah-e-Quaideen, Boat Basin, Liaquatabad, Hassan Square, North Nazimabad, SITE Area, Clifton, Defence, Qayyumabad, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Airport, Quaidabad, Malir, Landhi, and Korangi, received heavy rainfall, providing some relief from the city’s humid weather.
