KARACHI: The third spell of monsoon rains has begun in Karachi today and is expected to last until Sunday, July 20, according to the report, citing the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The Met Office has forecast moderate to heavy showers with thunderstorms and gusty winds in the city starting today. Karachi’s weather is likely to stay overcast, with high humidity making conditions sticky and uncomfortable.

According to PMD, the city’s humidity level currently stands at 72 percent, while southwesterly winds are blowing at around 11 kilometers per hour. The maximum temperature could climb up to 35 degrees Celsius during the day.

Meanwhile, heavy rainfall in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has led to widespread destruction, resulting in the deaths of at least 30 people in Punjab and 7 in KP due to rain-related incidents.

Lahore was especially hard hit, with last night’s downpour flooding several parts of the city and causing major traffic disruptions.

Ten people lost their lives due to electrocution and collapsing roofs during the storm, which began at 9:10 PM on Tuesday.

In one incident in Harbanspura, a 15-year-old boy named Awais and a 13-year-old girl named Esha tragically died after being electrocuted.

In another heartbreaking event in Thokar Niaz Beg’s Muridwal area, five members of a family lost their lives and two were injured when the roof of their house gave way. Another three died in a similar incident in Raiwind.

Faisalabad also reported seven fatalities due to collapsing roofs. Additional casualties included three each in Bahawalnagar and Okara, two in Pakpattan, and one each in Sahiwal and Arifwala, according to local reports.
