The Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony has scheduled a meeting of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee for Thursday evening to sight the Shawwal moon.

The session will be held on March 19, 2026 (29 Ramadan 1447 AH) at the ministry’s office located in Kohsar Block, Pak Secretariat, Constitution Avenue, Islamabad. It will be chaired by Maulana Syed Muhammad Abdul Khabir Azad.

At the same time, zonal and district Ruet-e-Hilal committees will also gather at their respective locations across the country.

The ministry has urged citizens to report any reliable moon sighting. The committee will make the final announcement after reviewing reports from different regions along with technical data.

Meanwhile, astronomical predictions suggest that the chances of spotting the Shawwal moon on March 19 are low. According to SUPARCO, the moon will be born at 06:23 PST, but by sunset, its age will be around 12 hours and 41 minutes, leaving only a short window for visibility.

Based on these factors, Eid ul Fitr is likely to be observed in Pakistan on March 21, although the official confirmation will come after the committee’s decision.
