The Sindh government has announced that double-decker and new electric buses (EV buses) will start operating in Karachi next week, with additional routes of the People’s Bus Service to be launched soon in other districts.

Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon chaired a meeting with Transport Secretary Asad Zaman, SMTMA Managing Director Kanwal Nizam Bhutto, TransKarachi CEO Fawad Ghaffar Soomro, and Yellow Line BRT PD Zamir Abbasi, where officials updated him on the progress of the Yellow Line and Red Line BRT projects.

The minister was also briefed on the upcoming EV taxi service in Karachi and the second phase of the Pink Scooties Scheme. He stated that the double-decker and EV buses are expected to arrive next week, with new routes being introduced in the city.

Sharjeel Inam Memon added that the EV taxi service is planned for launch in December and that an additional 500 buses will be added during the current financial year. New People’s Bus Service routes in other districts will also begin soon.

He directed transport officials to finalize all operational preparations for the new routes and noted that training programs for women and female students to ride scooties will be introduced in all divisional headquarters.

The minister also instructed officials to accelerate work on the Yellow Line BRT, complete depot and infrastructure tasks promptly, and ensure the second phase of the Taj Haider Bridge begins soon, noting that two-way traffic on the bridge has already been restored.

He emphasised that the relocation of utilities affecting the Yellow Line BRT project must be expedited to prevent delays in development progress.
