Dense winter fog has compelled the National Highways and Motorway Police to close several motorway sections across the country as visibility dropped to dangerous levels, posing serious risks for motorists.

Authorities confirmed that traffic was suspended on key routes, including M-1 from Peshawar to Swabi, M-2 from Thokar Niaz Baig to Kot Momin, M-3 between Faizpur and Rajana, M-4 from Sher Shah to Abdul Hakeem and from Pindi Bhattian to Gojra, and the entire M-11 stretch from Lahore to Sambrial.

These closures disrupted major travel corridors connecting cities such as Peshawar, Lahore, Faisalabad, and Sialkot, leading to delays for passengers and freight during busy hours.

Motorway Police officials warned that fog remains one of the biggest winter threats on highways and a frequent cause of serious accidents. Drivers were advised to avoid non-essential journeys, keep a safe distance from other vehicles, use fog lights properly and stay updated through official NHMP advisories.

Later in the evening, conditions showed some improvement and traffic was gradually restored on a few routes. However, restrictions continued on certain sections, especially for heavy vehicles on M-4, while M-11 remained fully closed due to persistently poor visibility.
