PESHAWAR: The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has ordered the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) not to carry out load shedding during Suhoor and Iftar in the holy month of Ramadan 2026.

The directive followed a petition filed over unscheduled power outages in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The court later issued a detailed five-page written judgment on the matter.

According to the ruling, PESCO must avoid unscheduled load shedding. If power cuts become unavoidable, the company has been instructed to provide a clear and transparent schedule for consumers.

The court also told PESCO to take practical and effective steps to reduce load shedding as much as possible and to make full use of available resources. It further emphasized compliance with the Supreme Court directions concerning electricity generation and distribution.

In its judgment, the court acknowledged the country’s electricity shortage, stating that it cannot order a continuous 24-hour power supply. However, distribution companies are still responsible for preventing unscheduled outages.

Three lawyers filed the petition seeking an end to load shedding. During the proceedings, PESCO’s lawyer challenged the court’s jurisdiction and referred to the relevant appellate tribunal. Despite this, the High Court issued clear directions in its final decision.

All concerned parties, including PESCO, have been instructed to ensure a steady electricity supply throughout Ramadan.
