An underground crude oil pipeline developed a leak on Street 13 of Khayaban-e-Sehar in Karachi’s Defence Housing Authority (DHA), spilling crude oil onto the road and creating a dangerous slipping risk for motorists.
The DHA Vigilance team reached the area shortly after the incident and blocked the affected section to traffic as a precaution. A large number of residents also gathered at the site.
Police said the relevant authorities, including Pak-Arab Refinery Limited (PARCO), were informed about the leak. PARCO sent a team to the location and stopped the flow through the damaged pipeline to prevent further oil from spreading.
According to police, the National Refinery also suspended the supply while repair work was started. Officials said the pipeline is old and passes underneath the centre of the road.

PARCO operates a pipeline network spanning more than 2,000 kilometres across Pakistan. Its Karachi-Mahmoodkot pipeline, which became operational in 1981, carries crude oil from Karachi to the company’s Mid-Country Refinery.
The company states that its pipeline system includes leak detection and emergency shutdown mechanisms, as well as corrosion protection and SCADA monitoring systems.
Authorities have asked motorists to stay away from the affected portion of Khayaban-e-Sehar until repairs are completed and the road is considered safe for traffic.
