A major expansion of the pink electric scooter programme for women across Sindh is underway following key directions issued during high-level meetings in Karachi. The initiative aims to improve women’s mobility and help them access education and job opportunities more easily.

Bilawal Bhutto Zardari chaired a series of meetings at Bilawal House on Tuesday, where progress on public welfare projects and administrative matters was reviewed.

During the meeting, the Senior Sindh Minister, Sharjeel Inam Memon, briefed him on the distribution of pink electric scooters in Karachi. After reviewing the update, he expressed satisfaction with the progress and directed that the programme be gradually expanded to cover women across the province.

Officials also confirmed that the next phase of the programme will begin in Sukkur and Hyderabad. Distribution ceremonies are expected to take place soon. The scheme provides free electric scooters to eligible women, intending to help them travel independently for education and employment.

According to the eligibility criteria, applicants must be permanent residents of Sindh and should be either students or employed women. They must also hold a valid motorcycle or car driving licence to qualify for the programme. Authorities have made it clear that recipients will not be allowed to sell or transfer the scooters for at least seven years.

Officials added that the selection process will be conducted through a transparent balloting system. Those selected will be required to pass road safety skill assessments. Free riding training sessions will also be introduced across Sindh so that women can safely learn how to operate the scooters.
