The Sindh government has decided to cap the number of guests at wedding halls at 200. The move has drawn sharp criticism from the Marriage Hall Association.

Representatives of the association described the decision as impractical. They said limiting the number of guests would not result in meaningful energy savings. According to them, families usually switch off lights and gas at their homes before leaving to attend wedding events.

Marriage Hall Association representative Rana Raees Ahmed stated that preparing food at a single venue helps reduce overall gas usage compared to cooking at several homes. He also pointed out that relatives often travel together in a single vehicle to attend weddings, which helps save petrol.

Ahmed cautioned that the government’s decision could harm the marriage hall business as well as the livelihoods of thousands of workers linked to the sector.

The association has urged the Sindh government to withdraw the notification without delay. It maintained that the restriction would place extra financial pressure on the public.
