The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted rainfall in Karachi and parts of Sindh as a weak westerly weather system is expected to enter the country from January 16.
The Met Office said the system is likely to bring rain along with thunderstorms to Karachi and several other districts of Sindh. Officials clarified that the rainfall will not be continuous and will occur in phases.
“Rainfall is expected on January 22 and 23, with gaps,” the PMD said in its latest advisory issued on Thursday.
Meteorologists noted that the rain is expected to be light to moderate in intensity, though it may still affect traffic movement and routine activities in the city.
At the same time, foggy conditions are likely to persist in Karachi on Friday, the Chief Meteorologist warned. He said fog may form during the early morning hours and could develop into smog during the day, especially in areas with heavy traffic and industrial activity.
Chief Meteorologist Ameer Haider Leghari explained that rising humidity levels are the main reason behind the fog being observed across the city. Increased moisture in the air, combined with calm winds, has created favourable conditions for fog formation.
Addressing concerns about colder weather, the Met Office official said no new cold wave is expected this month. He added that Karachi’s minimum temperature is likely to remain between 12 and 14 degrees Celsius, keeping nights cool but not severe.
