Pakistan is celebrating its 78th Independence Day today, renewing the pledge to uphold the spirit of the Pakistan Movement and work towards making the country a true Islamic welfare state.
The day began with a 31-gun salute in the federal capital and 21-gun salutes in provincial capitals, followed by special prayers in mosques for peace, unity, and prosperity.
The main flag-hoisting ceremony is taking place at the Pakistan Monument in Islamabad, where Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif will raise the national flag.
This year’s celebrations carry added significance following Pakistan’s recent victory in the Marka-e-Haq against India’s unprovoked aggression, which has further boosted the nation’s patriotic spirit.
Across the country, buildings are adorned with flags, buntings, and lights, while citizens have hoisted the national flag on their vehicles and rooftops.
In his Independence Day message, President Asif Zardari described the occasion as a time of “renewed pride and hope,” praising the unity and resilience demonstrated during the Marka-e-Haq operation.
He said this triumph has strengthened confidence in Pakistan’s institutions and elevated its global image.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid homage to the martyrs of the freedom movement and reaffirmed the government’s resolve to pursue economic reforms and protect national sovereignty.
He said Independence Day 2025 is not just a celebration of liberty but also a reminder to work for unity, justice, and peaceful coexistence.
