The monsoon season has officially arrived in Pakistan, bringing overcast skies and drizzle to Karachi. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has also predicted rain and thunderstorms in several parts of the country over the next two days.

PMD spokesperson Anjum Nazir Zaigham said Karachi is expected to enjoy pleasant weather during the next three days. The city’s cloudy skies and occasional drizzle are part of the ongoing monsoon system.

The current weather pattern is being influenced by moisture-carrying winds from the Arabian Sea moving into the upper and central regions of the country. At the same time, a westerly wave is affecting northern areas, creating favourable conditions for rain and thunderstorms in different regions.

On Tuesday, most parts of the country are likely to remain hot and humid. However, isolated rain and thunderstorms are expected in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeastern Punjab and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Islamabad and nearby areas are also expected to experience hot and humid weather throughout the day.

Across Punjab, hot and humid conditions will continue in most districts. Meanwhile, isolated rain with gusty winds and thunderstorms is forecast for Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sahiwal, Sialkot, Narowal and Okara.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, most districts will remain hot and humid as well. Rain and thunderstorms are expected at isolated locations including Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kalam, Malam Jabba, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Parachinar, Buner, Peshawar, Kurram, Kohat and Waziristan.

Sindh is also likely to experience hot and humid weather across most districts, while central and upper parts of the province may face intense daytime heat. Partly cloudy skies with isolated rain and thunderstorms are expected in Tharparkar, Umerkot, Mithi, Sukkur, Jacobabad, Karachi and other coastal areas.

Most districts of Balochistan will remain hot and humid, although scattered rain and thunderstorms are forecast for Khuzdar, Zhob and nearby areas.

The PMD further said that partly cloudy weather with isolated rain and thunderstorms is expected to continue in Azad Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday. Some areas of Gilgit-Baltistan are also likely to receive rain and thunderstorms.
