Students at the University of Karachi staged a protest on Monday to highlight the worsening condition of the university’s transport buses, as per the report.
The demonstration caused traffic disruptions on University Road leading to Safura, prompting authorities to divert vehicles toward Samama and Johar Chowrangi to manage congestion.
Protesters expressed frustration over what they called “heavy fees” being charged despite the poor state of university facilities.
One student said the administration collects large sums of money but fails to provide even basic services or ensure student safety.
The protest also followed the tragic death of a fellow student, with demonstrators demanding accountability from the university administration.
Aniqah Saeed, a second-year student of the Social Work Department, lost her life after being hit by a university point bus near the Dr. Mehmood Hussain Library.
Witnesses said she had just gotten off the same bus and was walking toward her department when the vehicle’s rear tyres ran over her.
She was rushed to a nearby hospital by bystanders but could not survive her injuries. The incident has sparked anger and renewed calls for improved transport safety and better welfare measures for students on campus.
