Sugar prices have seen a sharp rise across the country, with rates crossing Rs200 per kilogram in some cities for the first time ever.
As per the latest figures shared by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the average price of sugar in the country has now climbed to Rs188.44 per kilogram.
The data shows that sugar prices went up by Rs3.52 per kilogram in just one week. Last week, the average price was Rs184.92 per kilogram.
PBS also reported that in major cities such as Karachi, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi, the price has touched Rs200 per kilogram.
A closer look at the numbers reveals that this price hike has occurred not only over the past week but also over the course of a year.
Around this time last year, the average price of sugar was Rs145.88 per kilogram, showing an increase of Rs42.56 over the year.
