Authorities in Karachi have shut down the Korangi Crossing River Bridge and ABM Causeway after flooding from the Malir nullah created dangerous conditions. Officials said the move was necessary to protect the public as rising water levels continued to threaten the city.

The closures caused severe traffic jams, with long lines of vehicles piling up at Qayyumabad Chowrangi, Jam Sadiq Bridge, the Expressway, and Brooks Chowrangi. Traffic police and commuters reported that thousands were stuck on the roads for hours.

Traffic police said diversion routes and emergency teams have been deployed to ease the situation. Citizens were advised to avoid the affected areas and rely on official alerts for alternative routes.

Karachi has been experiencing uninterrupted rainfall since Tuesday, with showers extending into Thursday. Areas like Saddar, I.I. Chundrigar Road, and Shahrah-e-Faisal recorded heavy to moderate rain.

The persistent downpours have pushed water levels higher in both the Malir and Lyari rivers, flooding low-lying areas and overwhelming drainage systems. Intermittent showers also left major roads waterlogged, deepening the disruption to daily life.
