The Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) on Tuesday released its forecast regarding the sighting of the Zilhajj 1447 AH moon, saying that Eidul Azha is likely to be observed on May 27, 2026.
According to SUPARCO, the new moon of Zilhajj 1447 AH is expected to appear on May 17, 2026, at 1:01am Pakistan Standard Time (PST).
The commission stated that by sunset on May 17, the moon’s age would be around 18 hours and 30 minutes. It also noted that coastal areas of Pakistan are expected to have nearly a 60-minute gap between sunset and moonset.
Based on these astronomical calculations, SUPARCO said there is a strong possibility of sighting the Zilhajj moon on the evening of May 17, 2026, provided weather conditions stay clear and visibility near the horizon remains good.
The commission added that the 1st of Zilhajj 1447 Hijri is expected to fall on Monday, May 18, 2026.

However, it clarified that the final announcement regarding the moon sighting and the beginning of the new Islamic month will be made by Pakistan’s Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, the official authority responsible for confirming Islamic months through verified testimonies and observations from across the country.
Eidul Azha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice, is one of the two major Islamic festivals celebrated by Muslims around the world. It commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) to sacrifice his son in obedience to Allah’s command.
To honor this act of devotion, Muslims perform animal sacrifices during the three days of Eid and distribute the meat among family members, friends, and those in need.
The tradition symbolizes Prophet Ibrahim’s unwavering faith and obedience while also promoting the values of charity, gratitude, and unity within the Muslim community.
