KARACHI: As part of the ongoing crackdown on the illegal parking mafia in Saddar, authorities have arrested 12 more individuals for extorting citizens in the name of parking fees.
In the city’s central Saddar area, people involved in unlawfully charging motorists have now been brought to account. A strict operation was carried out in and around Regal Chowk, Abdullah Haroon Road, and nearby localities against those collecting unauthorised parking charges.
Assistant Commissioner Hazim Bangwar, who is overseeing the campaign against encroachments and illegal parking in Saddar, personally visited Preedy Police Station. He directed officials to register 12 new cases and ensured the arrest of another 12 suspects, who were then shifted to the police station.
All cases were filed on the complaint of the traffic police. The action followed reports of illegal parking fees and the harassment of citizens by those involved in the racket.
So far, more than 40 cases have been registered and over 30 people taken into custody in connection with unlawful parking practices.
The assistant commissioner warned those involved in encroachments and illegal parking to set their affairs in order, making it clear that no form of encroachment or illegal parking will be allowed in Saddar or any other part of the city.
