The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a public health advisory, warning of the possible spread of mosquito- and insect-borne diseases during the ongoing monsoon season.

The authority noted that mosquitoes and other seasonal insects can carry dangerous viruses responsible for life-threatening illnesses such as dengue fever, malaria, chikungunya, and other vector-borne infections. Globally, such diseases claim nearly one million lives each year.

People have been urged to take preventive measures, including ensuring rainwater does not accumulate in or around their homes. Water containers, storage tanks, and flowerpots should be kept dry to prevent mosquito breeding.

The NDMA further advised seeking immediate medical care in cases of fever, headaches, or body aches, stressing the importance of early action to reduce health risks during the rainy season.

This alert comes shortly after the NDMA’s earlier warnings about heavy rainfall and flooding in various regions, as well as a Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) risk for Gilgit-Baltistan, Chitral, Upper Dir, Swat, and Kumrat Valley.
