The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has announced that Pakistan will experience its seventh spell of monsoon rains from August 13.

The new wave is expected to bring widespread showers across Punjab, affecting several regions and river basins.

While the rainfall is likely to offer relief from the summer heat, a flood advisory has been issued as a precaution. Authorities have warned that water levels may rise in major rivers, including the Sutlej, Ravi, Chenab and Jhelum.

District administrations and related departments have been instructed to stay on high alert and be prepared for any emergencies.

People living near riverbanks have been advised to take safety measures, and the public has been reminded to avoid swimming in rivers, canals and streams during this time.

DG PDMA Punjab, Irfan Ali Kathia, stressed the need to evacuate people and livestock from riverine areas as a precaution.

He also reminded the public that “swimming or bathing in rivers, canals, streams, and ponds is strictly prohibited during this period.” In case of an emergency, citizens are urged to call the PDMA helpline at 1129.
