KARACHI: Light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, is expected to hit Karachi and various parts of Sindh from July 17 to 21, as a new monsoon system approaches the region.

The Chief Meteorologist said it is still too early to determine whether the system will grow stronger or trigger urban flooding in low-lying areas, since it depends on how much moisture it pulls from the sea.

This weather system is also likely to bring rain to rural areas such as Sanghar, Khairpur, Mirpurkhas, and Badin, while places like Tharparkar and Mithi might receive heavier showers along with thunder.

Moist air is already making its way into the country and is expected to become more intense by July 13. A new western weather front is also expected to arrive that evening.

With these changing conditions, areas in Sindh like Sanghar, Sukkur, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad, and Hyderabad are likely to receive rain and thunderstorms between July 15 and 17, though there may be intervals in between.
