Pakistan’s automobile industry saw its strongest monthly performance in almost three years, with passenger car sales reaching 21,773 units in June 2025, a 43 percent increase compared to the same month last year, as reported by the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA) and compiled by Topline Research.

The sharp rise, particularly a 47 percent increase from May, was largely driven by customers rushing to make purchases before the General Sales Tax (GST) hike from 12.5 percent to 18 percent, which came into effect on July 1.

Pak Suzuki’s Alto led the charge, achieving its best monthly performance in over three years.

Favourable economic indicators like lower inflation, reduced interest rates, and improved consumer confidence also contributed to the growth.

For the full fiscal year 2025, passenger car sales totaled 148,023 units, a 43 percent jump from 103,829 units the previous year.

Brand-Wise Highlights

Pak Suzuki Motor Company (PSMC) posted the most significant increase, with sales more than doubling to 13,217 units in June.

The Alto alone accounted for 9,497 units, reflecting a nearly threefold monthly rise. Sales of the Cultus model also saw a major uptick.

Sazgar Engineering Works (SAZEW) sold 1,349 units, showing a 47 percent monthly and 55 percent yearly gain, bolstered by the launch of the new HAVAL variant. Its yearly total climbed to 10,844 units, nearly double its FY24 figure.

Indus Motor Company (INDU) reported a 25 percent year-on-year gain but a 24 percent drop from May, ending June with 3,687 units. Honda Atlas Cars (HCAR) sold 1,808 vehicles, up 65 percent year-on-year, though slightly down from May.

Motorcycle and three-wheeler sales hit 138,509 units in June, a 54 percent rise year-on-year, but a 9 percent drop from the previous month. Total sales for FY25 in this category reached 1.52 million units, a 32 percent annual increase.

Tractor sales for June stood at 2,791 units, showing a 28 percent improvement over May but a 32 percent decline compared to last year, mainly due to persistent challenges in the agriculture sector.
