The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has seized 3,000 bales of raw tobacco in a major crackdown on illegal tobacco trade, according to an official statement issued on Wednesday.

The Regional Tax Office (RTO) Abbottabad carried out the operation, taking possession of nearly 80,000 kilograms of raw tobacco.

Calling the raid “unprecedented,” the FBR said this action reflects RTO Abbottabad’s strong resolve to stop revenue losses, break illegal supply networks, and protect businesses operating within the law.

The premises involved have been sealed, and a detailed investigation is in progress. The FBR described the seizure as one of the biggest in the region, adding that such enforcement efforts show its ongoing commitment to fighting smuggling and unlawful trade through stricter oversight and firm action.

Earlier, on the night of December 5, 2025, an enforcement team from RTO Peshawar, led by the Chief Commissioner, raided a Tobacco Company in Mardan.

During the raid, officials discovered that the company was secretly running an unregistered plant and machinery used to cut tobacco intended for illegal cigarette production.

The company, known for producing popular cigarette brands such as Cafe and Ranger, was found operating an extra, undeclared production line used to prepare tobacco for unlawful cigarette manufacturing.
