At least 11 more people have lost their lives in rain-related accidents as heavy monsoon showers continue to sweep across northern Pakistan.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a high alert for areas including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sialkot, Gujranwala, as well as parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

The current spell of rainfall is expected to continue until July 11, with authorities warning of possible flash floods in local streams and drains.

According to an earlier report, the National Disaster Management Authority had already recorded 79 deaths since June 26.

Among the most recent casualties, two children and a woman in Kasur were electrocuted, while others died in lightning strikes and sudden floods, as per Express News.

In Islamabad, a boy named Mohsin went missing after falling into the Sharifabad drain. Eyewitnesses say he tried to hold on to the side but couldn’t withstand the strong current.

Police and rescue teams are searching the surrounding areas, including parts of Gulberg and the Swat River.

A separate incident involving a motorcyclist swept away by rising water in the Korang drain was caught on video and widely shared on social media.

Persistent downpours have caused major problems in cities like Lahore, Faisalabad, and Gujranwala, where low-lying neighborhoods are submerged, and traffic has come to a standstill on many roads due to flooding.

The situation is particularly concerning in the hilly regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, and Gilgit-Baltistan, where there is a real risk of landslides.

In Balochistan, areas such as Zhob and Sibi are still facing strong thunderstorms, while river levels have risen significantly in parts of Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, raising concerns of floods.

Karachi has been spared from the worst of the weather, though it did receive light to moderate rain in parts of the city like Gulshan-e-Hadeed and around the National Highway, causing some minor issues.

Authorities have called on the public to avoid travel in affected zones and to stay alert. Rescue teams are actively working in flood-hit areas, and officials have urged people to remain indoors where possible as the rain is expected to continue in the coming days.
