Pakistan decides to reduce duration of Youm-e-Ali processions

LAHORE: Authorities have finalized a detailed security plan for processions and gatherings across the country on the occasion of Youm-e-Ali, observed to pay tribute to Hazrat Ali (RA) on his martyrdom anniversary.

Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi held a meeting with leading Shia scholars from different parts of the country to review security and administrative arrangements in view of the current national situation.

During the meeting it was decided that all processions on the 21st of Ramadan, held to mark the martyrdom of Hazrat Ali (RA), will conclude by the time of Maghrib prayer. The duration of other related processions will also be reduced.

The interior minister said that all necessary steps will be taken to ensure the safety and convenience of mourners. He also appreciated the cooperation of religious scholars during challenging times and encouraged them to continue promoting unity and harmony.

The Shia scholars assured the government of their full support. They said any attempt to create division or disturb national harmony would be defeated through collective unity. Federal Interior Secretary Khurram Agha was also present at the meeting.

Meanwhile in Karachi, extensive security arrangements have been made for the central procession on the 21st of Ramadan marking Youm-e-Ali (RA), under the supervision of Additional IG Azad Khan.

As part of the citywide security plan, 5,213 police personnel have been deployed. The deployment includes 19 SSPs and SPs, 53 DSPs, 755 NGOs, 4,244 head constables and constables, as well as 142 female police officers to help ensure the event takes place peacefully and smoothly.
