LAHORE : Cooking oil prices have risen sharply, increasing financial pressure on the public just before Ramadan 2026.
Reports indicate that the price of loose cooking oil has increased by Rs60 and is now being sold at Rs550 per liter. Retailers stated that Khalat Oil was earlier available for Rs490 per liter, but recent supply issues have led to the price increase.
The rise in cooking oil prices is creating additional difficulties for households that are already struggling due to inflation.
Ramadan 2026 Start Date in Pakistan
If the month of Shaban completes 29 days, Ramadan is expected to begin on February 19, 2026. If Shaban lasts 30 days, Ramadan will start on February 20, 2026.
The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will officially confirm the start of Ramadan after holding its meeting at the end of Shaban. The decision will be based on moon sighting reports and testimonies.
Fitrana and Fidya Amounts in Pakistan
Earlier, the Islamic Ideology Council announced the Fidya, Fitrana and Kaffara amounts for Ramadan.
Fidya is paid by people who cannot observe fasting because of illness, travel or other valid reasons. For 2026, the Fidya rates are:
- The amount for wheat is Rs300 per fast, making Rs9,000 for 30 fasts.
- For barley, it is Rs1,100 per fast, totaling Rs33,000 for 30 fasts.
- For dates, it is Rs1,600 per fast, totaling Rs48,000 for 30 fasts.
- For Kishmish, it is Rs3,800 per fast, totaling Rs114,000 for 30 fasts.
- For Manaqa or raisins, it is Rs5,400 per fast, totaling Rs162,000 for 30 fasts.
Fitrana Amount 2026
Fitrana is a compulsory charity given during Ramadan to support those in need. The amounts set for 2026 are:
- Rs300 per person for wheat,
- Rs1,100 per person for barley,
- Rs1,800 per person for dates,
- Rs3,800 per person for kishmish,
- Rs5,400 per person for Manaqa.
