Cooking oil prices rise ahead of Ramadan 2026

LAHORE : Cooking oil prices have risen sharply, increasing financial pressure on the public just before Ramadan 2026.

Reports indicate that the price of loose cooking oil has increased by Rs60 and is now being sold at Rs550 per liter. Retailers stated that Khalat Oil was earlier available for Rs490 per liter, but recent supply issues have led to the price increase.

The rise in cooking oil prices is creating additional difficulties for households that are already struggling due to inflation.

Ramadan 2026 Start Date in Pakistan

If the month of Shaban completes 29 days, Ramadan is expected to begin on February 19, 2026. If Shaban lasts 30 days, Ramadan will start on February 20, 2026.

The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will officially confirm the start of Ramadan after holding its meeting at the end of Shaban. The decision will be based on moon sighting reports and testimonies.

Fitrana and Fidya Amounts in Pakistan

Earlier, the Islamic Ideology Council announced the Fidya, Fitrana and Kaffara amounts for Ramadan.

Fidya is paid by people who cannot observe fasting because of illness, travel or other valid reasons. For 2026, the Fidya rates are:
