Rawalpindi hits 05°C as cold weather continues across Pakistan

Rawalpindi recorded the coldest day of this winter season on Tuesday, with temperatures dropping to 05°C.

Cold and dry weather is expected to continue in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and most parts of Pakistan from Tuesday night through Thursday. Smog and fog are likely to persist in the plains of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), continental air currently dominates most parts of the country. A shallow trough of a westerly wave is expected to approach the northwestern areas tonight.

Under these conditions, mainly cold and dry weather will continue in the twin cities and across Pakistan for the next two days.

Freezing temperatures are expected in hilly regions during the morning and night. Smog and patchy fog may remain over the plains of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during the night and morning hours.

Islamabad’s minimum temperature is expected to stay between 00°C and 02°C on Wednesday and Thursday, while Rawalpindi’s minimum will range from 03°C to 05°C during the same period.

In the last 24 hours, cold and dry weather prevailed in the Twin Cities and across most parts of the country. Hilly areas experienced very cold conditions, while smog and fog continued in the plains of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Sindh.

Leh remained the coldest place in the country with a temperature of 09°C below freezing. Skardu recorded a minimum of -06°C, Bagrote -04°C, and Gupis and Gilgit -03°C.

In Islamabad, the minimum temperature was 02°C with evening humidity at 85 per cent. Rawalpindi recorded a minimum of 05°C with evening humidity at 73 per cent.
