The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a heatwave alert for Karachi and most areas of Sindh, warning that hot and humid weather will intensify from June 9 to June 11, 2026. The rise in temperatures is being linked to a strong high-pressure system developing in the upper atmosphere, which is expected to push temperatures well above normal across the province.

According to the PMD, Karachi residents can expect increasingly uncomfortable weather conditions over the next few days, with temperatures continuing to rise and humidity remaining high. Heatwave conditions are expected to persist across much of Sindh until June 12.

Karachi Weather Forecast

Heatwave Across Sindh

The PMD has warned that temperatures in several districts of Sindh may remain 4°C to 6°C above normal during this period. Temperatures between 48°C and 51°C are expected in Sukkur, Shikarpur, Qambar Shahdadkot, Jacobabad, Larkana, Mohenjo Daro, Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, Ghotki, Khairpur and Nausharo Feroze.

Other districts, including Hyderabad, Badin, Matiari, Tando Muhammad Khan, Umerkot, Mirpur Khas, Jamshoro and Sanghar, are expected to record temperatures between 42°C and 45°C through June 12.

Karachi Could Reach 42°C

The weather department has forecast temperatures between 39°C and 42°C in Karachi from June 9 to June 12. Although the city is generally cooler than upper Sindh because of its coastal location, high humidity levels are expected to make conditions feel much hotter.

Possibility of Dust Storms

The PMD has also warned that intense heating may trigger isolated dust storms in some plain areas of Sindh. These conditions could reduce visibility and cause temporary disruptions to travel.

Health Precautions Advised

The department has urged the public, particularly children, women and elderly citizens, to take extra care during the heatwave.

Residents have been advised to avoid direct exposure to sunlight between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM, stay hydrated and avoid unnecessary outdoor activities during the hottest hours of the day.

Advisory for Farmers

Farmers have been asked to plan agricultural activities carefully and ensure proper care of livestock during extreme weather. Adequate water supply, shade and protection for animals are strongly recommended.

Higher Power Consumption Expected

As temperatures continue to rise, electricity demand is expected to increase across the province. Consumers have been encouraged to use electricity responsibly, especially during peak hours.

Water Conservation Encouraged

The PMD has also called for careful use of water as rising temperatures are likely to increase overall demand. Residents are encouraged to avoid wastage and use water wisely.

Authorities Asked to Remain Alert

All relevant authorities have been advised to stay vigilant and take necessary steps to prevent any emergency situation during the ongoing heatwave.
