KARACHI: The Excise Police on Tuesday arrested a man in Karachi’s Naya Nazimabad area for cultivating weed plants used for making drugs, as per the report.

According to the police, around 45 weed plants, worth nearly Rs60 million on the international market, were seized during the raid. The suspect had been growing the plants in flower pots on the rooftop of his bungalow.

Police officials said they recovered 45 weed plants, 42 grams of prepared weed, and 30 grams of seeds.

The confiscated plants weighed between 10 to 12 kilograms. The accused, identified as Salman, was taken into custody, and a case has been registered against him.

Initial investigations revealed that the suspect had been secretly cultivating the weed plants at his home and selling the prepared weed to buyers.

What is Weed?

Weed, or cannabis, is a plant that contains psychoactive compounds such as THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and CBD (cannabidiol). It is commonly used for medical, recreational, and spiritual purposes, with THC being the substance responsible for producing a “high.”

Why is Weed Banned?

Weed is banned in many countries due to concerns about its potential health risks, including addiction, mental health issues, and impaired brain function. Governments have enforced strict laws to protect public health and safety.

Laws and Regulations

Weed laws vary worldwide. While some countries have legalized it for medical or recreational use, others continue to enforce strict bans. In Pakistan, the cultivation, possession, and use of weed are illegal.

Understanding and following local laws is essential to avoid legal consequences, as global attitudes toward cannabis continue to evolve.
