PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has announced his resignation, with Sohail Afridi chosen to succeed him on the directives of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan.

According to PTI sources, the party has decided to replace Gandapur with Suhail Afridi, a first-time member of the Provincial Assembly from PK-70, Khyber district, who is considered the top candidate for the position.

Sohail Afridi previously served as president of PTI’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Insaf Students Federation and later as Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Communication and Works. Following the last cabinet reshuffle, he was appointed Minister for Higher Education.

He is also a member of PTI’s Central Executive Committee and entered the provincial assembly for the first time after winning the 2024 general elections from Khyber district.

Afridi, a businessman with a degree in Economics, began his political journey by winning the PK-70 Khyber-II seat with 31,649 votes, defeating Bilawal Afridi of the Pakistan Muslim League (N), who secured 7,401 votes.
