Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday handed over 50 electric vehicles (EVs) to Islamabad Police as part of the government’s efforts to modernize policing, strengthen public safety and promote environmentally friendly operations in the federal capital.
The keys were handed over to Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and Islamabad Inspector General of Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi during a ceremony in Islamabad. Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar, Federal Minister Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, Minister of State Talal Chaudhry and senior government officials were also present.
Speaking at the event, Prime Minister Shehbaz said protecting the lives and property of citizens was the government’s top priority. He said every possible resource was being provided to Islamabad Police to improve its technology, equipment and operational capabilities.

The prime minister also appreciated Mohsin Naqvi’s work to modernize the Islamabad Police. He said the force should set an example for police departments in other cities across the country.
New 200-Member Capital Patrol Force
The prime minister was also given a briefing on the newly formed Capital Patrol force, which has been established under the vision of a “safe, smart and green” Islamabad.
The force will consist of 200 police officers, including both male and female personnel. Motorcycle units will also be deployed to improve patrolling and ensure a faster response to incidents across the capital.
Capital Patrol officers will also wear body cameras while on duty. The cameras are intended to improve transparency, monitoring and accountability during police operations.
Rs34 Million Monthly Fuel Savings
The 50 electric vehicles will be deployed by the Capital Patrol force and are expected to bring substantial savings in fuel costs.
Officials told the briefing that the EVs could save the police department around Rs. 34 million in fuel expenses every month. The cost of the vehicles is expected to be recovered through these savings within about 10.5 months.
The move is part of Islamabad Police’s wider efforts to adopt technology-based and environmentally sustainable policing. The department has also introduced several digital and citizen-focused services, including the Smart ICTP app, online complaint and verification facilities, as well as emergency and citizen assistance systems.
Prime Minister Shehbaz praised Islamabad Police for adopting modern technology, lowering operational expenses and moving towards green policing. He also directed the authorities to further improve the new system and make policing more effective and responsive.
