KARACHI: The city experienced widespread rainfall on Monday, bringing pleasant weather as dark clouds and cool winds swept across the skies, as per the report.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), light showers were recorded in Metroville, SITE, Baldia, and Mauripur, while drizzle fell over Defence, Korangi Road, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Burns Road, and MA Jinnah Road.

The PMD forecast said the current spell will continue until September 10, with the possibility of heavy to very heavy rain on September 9 and 10.

For today, the temperature is expected to touch 34 degrees Celsius, with humidity at 91 percent and winds blowing at 11 kilometers per hour.

Authorities have advised Karachi residents to stay cautious as more rain is expected in the coming days.

Earlier, the Met Office predicted heavy showers across Sindh between September 7 and 9. Districts including Tharparkar (Mithi, Islamkot, Nagarparkar, Chhachhro, Dhali, Diplo, Kaloi), Umerkot, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Khairpur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Matiari, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Hyderabad, Karachi, Thatta, Badin, Sujawal, Jamshoro, Dadu, Kashmore, Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, and Ghotki are likely to receive widespread rain with heavy to very heavy falls at intervals.

Tharparkar’s Nagarparkar recorded 80mm of rain yesterday, while Mithi received 51mm, Kaloi 30mm, and both Diplo and Chhore 29mm.

The Met Office has warned that torrential downpours may trigger urban flooding in low-lying areas of Karachi, Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Shaheed Benazirabad, Tharparkar, Khairpur, Sukkur, Larkana, Thatta, Badin, and Sujawal.

More rain in flood-hit areas of Punjab could worsen conditions during the forecast period.

It added that a low-pressure system from Madhya Pradesh, India, has moved into Rajasthan and adjoining southeastern Sindh, pulling strong monsoon currents into Sindh and parts of eastern Punjab.
