The All Pakistan Private Schools Management Association has opposed the Punjab government’s decision to extend summer vacations until September 1, calling it unnecessary and detrimental to students’ education.
Their response followed Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat’s announcement on social media that all public and private schools in the province will reopen on September 1.
The minister stated that the decision was made to protect students from health risks associated with the ongoing heatwave.
The association, however, has urged the government to review its stance, noting that schools in Islamabad reopened on August 4 and institutions in other provinces have also resumed classes.
They pointed out that Punjab is the only province enforcing such an extended break, which could hinder students’ learning, slow academic progress, and disrupt board exam preparation.
Calling the move disruptive and against the academic calendar, the group suggested reopening schools under strict health and safety measures. They also proposed a phased return, starting with board classes, to avoid further academic loss.
