LAHORE: At least seven lives, including those of four children and one woman, were lost in various rain-related incidents across Punjab during the recent spell of heavy rains.
A report released by the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) on Tuesday confirmed that 11 others were injured in separate incidents, including three children and two women.
In Rawalpindi, a house roof collapsed in Chahat Mohallah, claiming the life of a child and injuring four other family members, two of them children and one woman.
In another heart-wrenching incident, three children drowned in a stormwater drain in Kallar Syedan. Separately, one man also drowned in a nullah.
In Kamonke, a woman lost her life, while a man and a child were injured after a roof collapsed on Mandiyala Road.
In Lahore, a worker tragically died after getting stuck in the mud while working on a sewage drain. Additionally, four people, including one woman, were injured in three different roof collapse incidents across the city.
PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia said the affected families will receive compensation according to the government’s policy. He added, “losses of citizens would be compensated as per the instructions of the Punjab Chief Minister.”
He also urged the public to take safety measures during the ongoing rainy weather to prevent further tragedies.
