Flour shortages are re-emerging in Punjab as the Punjab government and Pakistan Agricultural Storage & Services Corporation Limited (PASSCO) have sharply reduced wheat releases, as reported.

Asim Raza, representing the Pakistan Flour Mills Association, said that previously 20,000 to 26,000 tons of wheat were supplied daily, but now only 6,000 tons are being provided to flour mills across the province, with over half going to Lahore.

He added that flour is being supplied to Lahore at Rs 3,000 per maund, with daily deliveries meeting around 90,000 of the 262,000 20kg bags demanded in the city. Supplies of 15kg bags are also included to help meet local needs.

Raza noted that reduced wheat releases outside Lahore are creating difficulties for mills across Punjab, disrupting the supply system and contributing to the growing flour shortage.
