The Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has decided to start distributing solar energy systems under its household solarization program.

Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi directed officials to complete all necessary formalities and begin the distribution process as soon as possible while chairing a meeting in Peshawar.

Officials told the meeting that the project will benefit 130,000 households across the province, including the merged districts. Out of these, 65,000 households will receive solar systems free of cost, while another 65,000 households will get the units at a 50 percent subsidized rate, which can be paid in installments.

During the meeting, it was also shared that the PC-1 of the project has been finalized and will be presented in the upcoming session of the Provincial Development Working Party for approval.

Authorities are also preparing a separate solarization initiative under the Accelerated Implementation Program (AIP) for the merged districts. Through this plan, 120,000 households in those areas will be provided with solar energy systems.

Officials said that solar units will be allocated to districts based on population. Priority will be given to widows, persons with disabilities, temporarily displaced families, disaster affected households, and communities that do not have access to electricity.
