Rain is likely across most districts of Punjab over the next 24 hours, as per the report on Wednesday, quoting the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA).

The PDMA spokesperson said the sixth monsoon spell is expected to continue until August 7.

PDMA Punjab’s Director General Irfan Ali Kathia, has directed district administrations to stay alert during this period.

He mentioned that the Indus River at Tarbela is currently facing low-level flooding, while water levels at Kalabagh, Chashma, and Taunsa remain normal.

The same applies to the rivers Chenab, Jhelum, Ravi, and Sutlej, which are flowing at safe levels.

Hill torrents and streams connected to major rivers are stable and pose no immediate threat. Tarbela Dam has reached 95 percent of its storage, while Mangla Dam is at 62 percent capacity.

So far this monsoon season, 164 people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents across Punjab.

In the past 24 hours, three more people were injured in weather-related accidents. Authorities are keeping a close watch and have urged the public, especially in flood-prone and low-lying areas, to remain cautious.

Meanwhile, the National Emergency Operations Center (NEOC) of NDMA has issued a hydrological alert over possible flooding in the River Sutlej.

NEOC noted that strong monsoon currents are entering the upper and central regions of the country, while a westerly system remains active over the north.

Between August 5 and 7, scattered heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected, which could raise river levels.

According to the latest update, River Sutlej’s water discharge downstream at Ferozepur (Ganda Singh Wala) rose significantly from 28,657 to 33,653 cusecs in just one hour, pointing to an upward trend in river flow.
