The Punjab government has expanded its electric public transport network by launching electric bus services on 13 new routes across six more districts. The move brings modern and environmentally friendly transport to additional cities, towns, and tehsils across the province.

The latest phase includes Khanewal, Khushab, Bhakkar, Attock, Mandi Bahauddin and Hafizabad. It is part of the government’s broader plan to upgrade the public transport system and reduce pollution.

According to the Punjab government, 400 electric buses are currently running in 18 districts. The fleet is expected to grow to 1,500 buses in the coming months as the expansion continues.

Officials also said that 212 more electric buses for 20 additional districts have already arrived in Pakistan and will be put into service soon. Another 488 buses are expected to arrive by the end of August to further strengthen the province’s green transport project.

The Punjab government plans to introduce electric bus services in 14 more districts by the end of July. These include Lahore, Gujranwala, Multan, Chiniot, Layyah, Okara, Sialkot, Murree, Gujrat, Sheikhupura, Vehari, Kasur, Lodhran, Nankana Sahib and Narowal.

The electric buses come with several modern features, including air conditioning, GPS tracking, CCTV cameras, USB charging ports, wheelchair ramps and Wi-Fi on selected routes. The government says the project aims to provide cleaner, quieter and more comfortable travel while helping reduce fuel consumption and air pollution.

With a target of deploying 1,500 electric buses, Punjab is moving ahead with one of Pakistan’s largest public transport electrification projects, extending sustainable transport to both major cities and smaller towns.
