he Universal Service Fund (USF) is set to roll out the Next Generation Broadband for Sustainable Development (NG-BSD) initiative to improve internet access in underserved parts of Pakistan. The project will bring high-speed broadband services to Bahawalpur, Mirpurkhas, and Kolai Palas districts.

Each of these districts will be offered as a separate package in the upcoming bidding process. The aim is to reduce the digital divide in areas where connectivity remains limited.

To select service providers, the USF will follow a reverse auction method, where companies compete by offering services at the lowest subsidy required from the government. The successful bidders will receive official backing to develop and run the necessary infrastructure.

Companies taking part in the bidding must meet strict criteria, including valid NTN and sales tax registration. This approach ensures a fair and competitive process for efficient project delivery.

The bidding will take place in phases, with submissions for the Bahawalpur package due by May 21, 2026. Once completed, the project is expected to provide affordable high-speed internet to thousands of users.

Better connectivity is likely to benefit key sectors such as education, healthcare, and local businesses, helping improve access to online services in the targeted regions.
