The Sindh government has imposed a complete ban on tire burning and pyrolysis plants across the province. A recent notification states that all activities involving tire burning and the operation of pyrolysis units are now strictly prohibited.

The Sindh Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) has been directed to revoke all No Objection Certificates (NOCs) previously issued to tire pyrolysis facilities.

Advisor to the Chief Minister, Dost Muhammad Rahimoon, announced that plant owners have been given 30 days to shut down operations or face stern action. Those found violating the order will face plant closures, heavy fines, and sealing of premises.

Rahimoon said the move aims not only to curb pollution but also to promote a cleaner and healthier environment across Sindh.

Earlier this year, Punjab’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) discovered several illegal pyrolysis plants secretly running at night in Lahore, identified as a key contributor to the city’s worsening smog.

Drone surveillance revealed that these plants, which appeared closed during the day, burned used tires at night to produce fuel. Following the discovery, the EPA and the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) launched a joint operation to dismantle the illegal units.
