Punjab Chief Minister has approved a major hike in traffic fines across the province to discourage violations and encourage safer driving practices.

Under the new policy, motorists breaking traffic laws will face much steeper penalties. Motorcyclists will now be fined Rs2,000 per violation, while the maximum fine for different offenses has been raised to Rs20,000.

Traffic police officials stated that fines previously ranging from Rs100 to Rs500 have been revised upward under the new schedule. Drivers of vehicles with engines over 2000cc will now face a Rs. 20,000 fine for overspeeding.

Additional penalties have been introduced for specific violations as well. Running a red light or overloading vehicles will incur fines of up to Rs15,000, while driving the wrong way on a one-way road will also result in a Rs15,000 penalty.
