Punjab on alert as PDMA warns of fresh monsoon spell

LAHORE: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Punjab has issued a weather warning, predicting heavy thunderstorms in several districts of Punjab from September 6 to 9, as per the report on Friday.

According to PDMA, strong monsoon rains are likely in Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, and Gujranwala, while Lahore, Gujrat, Sialkot, and other cities may also receive showers during this spell.

The authority cautioned that between September 7 and 9, Dera Ghazi Khan could face flash flooding. Commissioners and deputy commissioners across the province have been instructed to stay vigilant and ensure precautionary measures are in place.

For the next twelve hours, most parts of the country are expected to remain hot and dry, though southeast Sindh, southeast Balochistan, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Potohar region, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan may see partly cloudy weather with chances of rain, wind, and thunderstorms.

Morning temperatures in major cities were recorded as follows: Islamabad 24°C, Lahore and Peshawar 26°C, Karachi 28°C, Quetta 22°C, Gilgit 19°C, Muzaffarabad 24°C, and Murree 17°C.

In Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir, partly cloudy and dry weather is expected in Jammu, Pulwama, Anantnag, Shopian, Baramula, and Leh, while Srinagar may see rain, wind, and thunderstorms.

Morning temperatures there were Srinagar, Anantnag, and Shopian 15°C, Jammu 24°C, Leh 6°C, and Pulwama and Baramula 14°C.
