LAHORE: Deputy Commissioner Lahore Captain (retd) Ali Ijaz has made it clear that the district administration will not impose fixed rates on kites and pinna, as these items do not fall under essential commodities.

However, he said steps are being taken to prevent unreasonable price hikes. According to the deputy commissioner, the government has allowed the import of kites from other cities, while four districts across Punjab have also been permitted to manufacture kites.

The move is aimed at increasing supply in the market, which is expected to help bring prices down.

As part of the Basant celebrations, a musical concert will be organized at Liberty, and citizens have been invited to take part in the festivities.

Captain (retd) Ali Ijaz also announced that action will be taken against motorcyclists who fail to install safety rods, stressing the importance of public safety during the festival.

Meanwhile, Basant preparations in Lahore are in full swing, with sales of kites and string crossing Rs1.22 billion within just four days.

Figures shared by the Kite Flying Association show that demand continues to surge, with sales reaching their highest point on the fourth day. More than one million kites have been sold in local markets so far, while over 20,000 pinnas were sold on the fourth day alone.

Prices of kite string vary widely, with a 1.5 Tawa priced at Rs700, while a smaller one is selling for Rs 400. Pinna prices currently range between Rs12,000 and Rs15,000.
